With the technology for online education still being relatively new, it is not surprising that people would have questions about the process and what an education online entails. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about California Education Online.

Are online educations more expensive?

Not usually, no. In fact, getting your California education online may be less expensive than a traditional education because you can avoid the need for extra gas to get to class as well as parking fees and the need to feed yourself while you are out and about to your classes. Most universities charge per educational credit for courses, so whether or not you are taking your class or not, your tuition will be the same as if you were attending classes in person.

Are online degrees different than other degrees?

No. From most accredited universities and schools your degree will not indicate that you achieved your degree online in whole or in part.

How long does it take to get an online degree?

That depends almost entirely upon you and your ability to handle the online learning environment well. Some students like to take it slow and only attend one online course per semester. Other students with excellent self-organization and time management skills will take five or six or more classes online per semester without difficulty.

Do I have to be accepted to a college to pursue a degree online?

If you will be attending classes online as offered through an accredited school or university, you will have to be accepted to that school in order to receive credit for your work.

Where do I get books and other learning materials?

You can get the books and learning materials for your course(s) from the same place the traditional students do: the university bookstore, or online sources. If your online university is located a significant distance from you, you will find that many universities have mail-order options for their textbooks and other materials as well.

Will I be able to contact my instructors and classmates on the phone?

Not usually, no. It is rare for online education to be conducted via phone, but for your own personal circumstances or counseling, you may contact your classmates or instructor if they are agreeable to it.
